Happy Thanksgiving from the Harbin’s

I would like to say happy Thanksgiving to all my family and friends here in America. Also to every one out in blog land.

Charlotte and I are truly blessed by my kids, and grandkids. Even though I have been battling cancer and Charlotte with her health problems we both know that God has blessed us and watched over us while we were going through it.

Our Houston kids, Kansas kids, Could not come for Thanksgiving. Our Amarillo son had to work at the fire department, Amy and the boys were over at her folks. I had planed to take Charlotte to a restaurant so she could have her turkey and dressing for Thanksgiving. We got there at around 10 after 11:00, hoping to get there early enough to beat the crowd. There were people out on the sidewalk and in the parking lot. We decided to go back home and Charlotte made the best home made pizza for lunch. This beat any restaurant food any day of the week.

Thankgiving & Christmas 2016

Not all of our kids were able to come for Thanksgiving. Our Houston kids could not make it this year for Thanksgiving, but our Daughter and her boy fried made it from Kansas. She wont be able to come for Christmas so we celebrated it with her the day after Thanksgiving. It is always so much fun to pass out presents when our grandkids or here to do it with us.
Since we were only to exchange gifts with my daughter and Brian and them with us and the boys. My grandkids were so navyexcited though they had gotten me a present even though they were not supposed to. I opened it and it was a US Navy Christmas ornament. I let them hang it on the tree. They were so excited and found the perfect place to hang it

Second Grandsons Graduation.

We live in Amarillo Texas and one of our sons lives in Pearland Texas. It is close to 600 miles and any where of 10 to 11 hours to drive depending on the traffic. We have two different ways we can go, either through Waco Texas and then into the West side of Houston. There as been a lot of flooding down that way so we decided to go down I 45 south which will take you into north Houston. It rained all the way in fact between Amarillo and Fort Worth highway 287 had water across the road and the traffic was down to one lane for a ways.

Friday morning was graduation day it was so great to see Colten walk across that stage and receive his diploma, it was just two short years ago that we had made this same trip to see our first grandson graduate.

Dejavu all over again

Have you ever had a time when you could swear this has happened before. About 9 or 10 years ago we were at our sons home in Houston. They live on a corner lot and there is a fire plug next to the street in front of their house. So I parked my car on the side street. A lady came to my sons front door she told my son that she was backing out of her driveway and backed into my car. I went out to look at the damage and their was a slight scratch so I told her not to worry and I found a different place to park. She was in a van and it put a big dimple in her bumper.

We went down to Houston again this last weekend to celebrate both my sons birthday and is sweet wife her birthday was just before his. Well now not only does my son have a car, his wife has a car and both grandsons have trucks. So I parked beside the house on the side street. I asked Jeremy if he thought it would be safe there. He said yes that lady does not live there any more. We were there for 4 days and everything was going great. We went over to his house Sunday morning and we were going to leave that afternoon. Sure enough we were settingIMG_0198 in the kitchen talking when we heard a knock at the front door. My son went to the door and then we heard him laughing and the he said dad the lady across the street back into you car. He then explained to the confused young lady why he was laughing. She hit the driver’s door and it was not to bad but we did exchange insurance info because the Honda was a little newer than my old Pontiac we was in before.

Colten’s Birthday Supprise

When all the family went to Houston for Caleb’s Graduation. his younger brother came back to Amarillo to stay several weeks with both sets of P1110141grandparents. After a month the kids came up from Houston to pick him up. They have been looking for a pickup to give Colten for his 16th birthday which is July 14th by the way, They did not find one for him before time to come  and get him. It just happened as they were coming into town his mother was looking at FB on her phone and noticed that one of her friends had posted a pickup for sale. They went and looked it over and decided it was the right one. They did not want to give it to him until his birthday but since they had to get it back to Houston they went ahead and gave it to him. So we were able to see his excitement when they gave it to him. They left today to drive the 12 hours back home.

Going to Oldest Grandson’s Graduation. Day 7

We pretty much rested at the motel here in Houston for some of the day. The oldest grand son had school part of the day and the younger one had school all day. Our son had to go out of town for work and was not going to get in till latter that day.

The Amarillo schools have already let out for the summer and so those kids came in today. So after they parked their travel trailer at the RV park they met us at the Houston kids house. We decided we would all go out to eat some BBQ. Coletn wanted to go to Red River Eating and visiting Hanging out and catching up after the meal.BBQ in League City Texas so that’s where we headed. Sorry I did not get a picture of the food itself we were to busy eating it, that is what the Harbin clan likes to do.

Thanksgiving 2013

While we were visiting our kids down by Houston for Thanksgiving. We were having a great time hanging out with the family. We made the 630 mile trip down on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving and had planed to drive back the Saturday after. The Houston kids wanted us to stay one more day so we went ahead and stayed. Of course it happened they finely got me to go shopping with them but they had to promise to take me to Gringo’s Mexican Kitchen to eat, we love this place and every time we go down there we make it point to eat there. After this we went to one of those outlet malls so the girls could shop and one of my sons need to get him a suit. It was colder  than usual so I found a place in the sun out of the wend to set and wait for them to finish up. The temperature there was in the 40’s which for me was not that bad as long as I stayed out of the wend, it’s usually in the 70 and 80’s so the kids that live there was freezing, but the rest of us are from the Panhandle of Texas where it can get well below freezing this time of year. Afterwards we drove down too Galveston Texas which was about 30 miles away. We went to a place called Moody Gardens where there are several things to see. They were having what was called the festival of lights and that was all we had a chance to look at. Charlotte and I left out around 7:00 Sunday morning to drive home, it took us right at 10 hours to get home.

Sunset Cruse Texas

Our Houston kids have been taking sailing lessons and or now qualified to take sailing boats out in the Gulf of Mexico. They have one more class where they go out for three days and so Mama and I went down to watch the boys. We used to call it baby setting but not anymore because one of them is eighteen and the other one is fifteen. I thank my son was using that as an excuse to get us down here, as if we needed an excuse we would come down at the drop of a hat. Our kids have leased a 31 foot sailboat for a year and so our first night there we took the boat out into Galveston bay near Kemah Texas. The eighteen year old was at football practice and was unable to go with us on the boat, it was only about 20 minutes from where the kids live to Kemah where the boat is docked, so after our daughter-in-law got of work she met up with us. We had supper then got on board the boat then off we sailed. We had such a good time and watching my son and daughter-in-law who was raised in the Texas panhandle along ways away from water handle the boat and sails. We would sail with the wind and against the wind; they had no problems handling the boat. My fifteen year old grandson was an excellent mate handling the sails when his dad told him what to do he was more than happy to do it.

Watch Out Texas

My daughter-in-law drove up from Houston Texas to Amarillo Texas by wayP1090212 P1090213 of Stopping in Dallas Texas today. My second grandson just turned 15 and as just gotten his learners permit to drive, and so she let him drive the last two hours of the trip. It was so weird seeing him behind the wheel when they pulled up in the drive. My wife figured that he would be driving so she met them and took these pictures. My son and the oldest Grandson will be here later for they both had to work so they our driving straight through which takes anywhere from 11 to 12 hours, well they have upped the speed to 75 mph most of the way now so they might make it in 10 hours I guess we will wait and see when they get here.

Celebrating another birthday.

Well this is my 67th birthday and considering I had a heart attack just five days before. I feel truly blessed by God by me doing so well and to be able to have the kids over. My wife and boys cooked a good health meal and my 3-year-old grandson sang happy birthday to me while the 6-year-old was giving me a birthday spanking because just a few short weeks ago I was giving him one for his birthday, needless to say he gave up after about 20 swats he said he was getting tired even though he could count that high. My oldest son who by the way is only two minutes older than Jeff was able to come up from Houston because he was worried about his old man. So he was here for my birthday also and I loved that I just wish his wife and my other two grandsons could have come. The 13-year-old did call me though and wished me a happy birthday, and then the 16-year-old got on the phone and my daughter-in-law, so I got to talk with them and hear their B-day wishes. My oldest child was not able to come up then but she will be here for father’s day, so here again I am truly blessed to have a loving God and a loving family.
