My daughter-in-law drove up from Houston Texas to Amarillo Texas by way of Stopping in Dallas Texas today. My second grandson just turned 15 and as just gotten his learners permit to drive, and so she let him drive the last two hours of the trip. It was so weird seeing him behind the wheel when they pulled up in the drive. My wife figured that he would be driving so she met them and took these pictures. My son and the oldest Grandson will be here later for they both had to work so they our driving straight through which takes anywhere from 11 to 12 hours, well they have upped the speed to 75 mph most of the way now so they might make it in 10 hours I guess we will wait and see when they get here.
We stopped by today to visit my uncle, he is 90 years young and is living in a nursing home. While visiting the subject of my mom who is his sister and my dad came up. He was telling me how good of a cook my mother was and how she made wonderful cake and pies. He was saying how he and his wife my other uncle and his wife would come over to my house to have some deserts. Both of my parents are dead, dad has been gone for about 36 years and mom passed on about 10 years ago. Mom was 15 and dad was 25 when they were married, I asked my uncle how my folks met. He told me that Dawson’s were farmers and moved to Cordell Oklahoma from Texas to farm some land, and the Harbin’s were farmers and moved from Alabama and had a farm just a few miles away and they became friends. I asked my uncle if his mom and dad minded that my mother was married so young and he told me that they did not mind and that they felt he could take good care of her.
I just wish I had been interested in all this back when my folks were alive and I am very thankful that my uncle still has enough of his mind that he can remember this info. He is the only living relative that was around when my folks were young.
First of all I am a believer in our Lord Jesus Christ. I love Him and I try the best this old human being can to follow Him. I am not perfect but I strive to be, and I also try not to use the excuse that there was only one perfect man and that was Jesus.
Okay I understand that there are several types of religion on this earth and I know that every one pretty much say that they are the only ones to follow. Some say you have to do good works to get into heaven, and others say you have to hate everyone who does not believe the way they do and that you have to die by killing the un-believers and then you will go to heaven. Well I am here to say that the only way is to believe that Jesus Christ came to this world born to a virgin died for your sins and arose again on that 3rd day. I know that sounds too easy but it is true. John 3:16 says 16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. Jesus said in John 14:6 I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
God loves each and every one of us no matter what we have said, or have done, I do mean anything I or we have done. There is only one Sin that will keep you out of heaven and that is blasphemy the Holy Spirit Jesus said in Matthew 12:31 “And so I tell you, every kind of sin and slander can be forgiven, but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven.” In case you do not understand what this means is that if you do not accept Jesus He will not send the Holy Spirit to come in your life. So all other sins no matter what He will forgive, so right now where ever you are just put everything out of your thoughts and ask Jesus to come in to your heart and He will, then go out and tell everyone what you have done. Praise God that I live in a country where I can freely tell people about having God in my life and I know there or countries where if you do you will die so there I say be careful but no matter what you belong to God and you will always be His no matter what happiness.
I still Praise my Lord that I live in the United States of America. And I know that we as Christians or now being attacked by the devil. I have really never said much about what is going on but we has Christians need to make our voices heard, we have let people take prayer out of schools, take the ten commandments out of our courts, take the nativity sense out of our parks at Christmas time and so on. All other so-called religions can do whatever they want in public but we as Christ follower cannot because we might offend some one, give me a break if they do not believe in Him than what should it matter to them? I have some what is called gay kinfolks, I love them as people even though I do not agree with what they or doing, it is not for me to judge. Jesus says in Matthew 7:1 “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. I am not going to say that I understand everything in the Bible but I do believe it is the inspired Word of God, and I also believe God is a loving God and that he will not tell me to do something wrong by hurting other people, so if we do not have love what good is believing in God. 1 John 4:8 says “Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love”. We are to love our enemies, Matthew 5:43-48 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. …
Okay I have gotten that off of my chest and I know that I did not explain what all I wanted to get across but at least I said something. I have felt guilty for years because I was afraid to say anything due to I might offend someone. Well I love God, Christ, and the Holy Spirit and I know that I will be with Him no matter what happens to me here on earth. I just want all to be there with me so if I haven’t turned you off by my non perfect explanation than please talk with Jesus and invite Him into your heart. The way things are happening around the word I would not take too long to accept Him.
I thought everyone needed a good laugh, back in the mid 70’s I was into CB radios. I used to talk on regular channels and what they called shooting skip on the upper channels. I get so mad at people talking and texting on their cell phones. Thin after seeing this picture I remembered how I used to talk on the CB while driving, turning corners and wrapping the mike cord around the steering wheel, it was a wonder that I did not have a wreck. I would not go anywhere without my radio, and when I would get home I would remove it from the car take it into the house and hook it up on what was called a base antenna. We had twin boys so our CB handles were double daddy, the wife was mama two, our daughter was precious pup, and the twins were twiddle Dee, and twiddle dum. I would say we had a lot of fun with it but the truth is I was the one who enjoyed it. I guess the most trouble I got into with my wife was one year at New Years instead of kissing my wife at midnight I got on the CB and wished everyone a happy New Year, I remember the disappointed look on her face and I swore I would never do a stupid thing like that again.
The Amarillo Globe News has been sponsoring fireworks for the past 59 years and the Amarillo Symphony has been playing for the last 3 years. I only took a couple of pictures of the fireworks so it does not give it the looks of the way it was. After the sun went down the fireworks started and they were coordinated with the music from the symphony it was wonderful, but you would have to been there to get the whole experience. The last two years we have not had a full-time conductor for the symphony, the conductor was just chosen and this was his first concert after accepting the job. The Texas panhandle is known for being windy but last night was perfect very little wind. The night before though was a different story most of the second chair players had to fight the wind while trying to turn the music so the new conductor was broken in to this part of the country.
We are members of the local Amarillo Genealogy Society. We meet once a month at our down town library, we met last night and had a ferly short meeting due to the fact one of our officers quit and he was the one responsible to get speakers or a program for the meetings. I volunteered to take this job on and I have no earthly Ideal on what to do, but I do know that I would like to keep are society going. I guess what I am asking is if any of you have any good Ideal’s that I might be able to use I would appreciate it if you could pass them on to me. I do know we do not have much money to work with now but maybe we can grow big enough to where we could hire speakers to come in. Thank you a head of time for any suggestions you might be able to give me. May God bless each one of you? Jim
