Make a Joy full noise to the Lord

I was reminded tonight about what my oldest grandson told me a few years back. I am always singing around the house and my wife who knows music in fact she plays in the symphony here in Amarillo, any way she is always telling me that I can’t carry a tune in a bucket. It is true I can’t even read music so when I sing at church I try to follow along with whoever I am sitting next to which is usually my wife. I was reading in Psalm where it says make a joy full noise to the Lord, in fact I found at least 7 references about it and in Psalm 81:1 it says sing aloud unto God our strength: make a joy full noise  unto the God of Jacob. I take that to say it all sounds good to God. Any way to make a long story short, one day at church my grandson was standing next to me and I was just singing away with the music when Caleb said Poppy now I know why Mama says you can’t sing. Well I might not be able to sing but I do not let that stop me, for when I fill like singing I just bellow it out.

Day after the Blizzard

Blizzard HRCC

I did not take this picture but it is of the church I go to Hollywood Road Comunity Church

Well here is the day after the blizzard of 2013 here in Amarillo Texas. The weather station reported that out by the National weather service which is located NE of town out by the airport received 19” of snow and the wind gust at one time was hurricane force wind at 75 MPH. In fact where I used to work at which was located about 30 miles from my house the wind blew at 77 mph. The Temp as of 12:00 noon today is at 32 degrees and the Sun is shining bright so now this wonderful water can thaw and soak into our thirsty ground. In fact they said with all this melted down will be about 1 ½” of moisture which puts us a head for moisture for this time of year and that is a first in quiet sometime.

P1070970 P1070971P1070972We have been under snow warnings before and the weather services and our local weatherman would tell us we were going to get a lot of snow. And either the Low pressure would go the wrong direction too far north or too far south and we would be left high and dry. In fact we joke a lot around here that the weatherman is the only job where you can be wrong 90% of the time and still keep your job. For the last few days they have been forecasting a blizzard warning for us well this time they were right we have winds blowing 45 to 50 mph and heavy snow. Yesterday the temp was up to 60 degrees then last night the temps dropped and the wends picked up and now we have over a foot of snow on the ground with snow drifts up to 4 feet deep. As I am writing this it is around 10:00 in the morning and the storm is supposed to last until sometime tomorrow. We definitely need the moisture for we have been in a drought for several years now in fact there is a lake northeast of us that at one time was 99 feet deep at the dam and as of yesterday it was 28.45 feet at the dam so all this snow will help, I would prefer it to be rain but we will take whatever the Lord gives us.

Temptation of Christ

Temptation of Christ (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Have you ever been tempted, if you said no than chances or you just told a fib? Any way this is not a trick question I am just saying that I catch myself being tempted quit often. I remember when I was a young boy I would be tempted to take something that did not belong to me or maybe tell a little white lie to mom, dad, our my sisters anything to try to stay out of trouble. In school you might be tempted to cheat on a test or to blame something on some else to keep from being sent to the office. At work you might be tempted to take shortcuts to get your work completed on time or you might be tempted to cheat on your spouse, your taxes, or take money off the top that does not belong to you. What I would like you to know is that no matter what is tempting you there is a way of escape so that you do not have to live with it.

1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you but such as common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide a way of escape also, that you may be able to endure it. (NIV)

You know if you have never given your life to Christ then being tempted may not bother you. But once you become one of His followers than the devil will tempt you wanting you to fail. But God will help you and if you take it on yourself to go ahead and do what is tempting you than your farther loves you and He will forgive you. I am not saying that you wont be punished for whatever you have done but you can live with the faith that God will be there for you. What has helped me the most is I have memorized this verse and when I feel that I am being tempted I repeat this verse to myself thus helping me to fight the temptation.

Second Trip after Retirement Part Twelve

This will be the last blog about our second trip, I have truly enjoyed writing and shearing the photos and it helped me relive the trip again. After leaving Pella P1070402 Iowa State Captialwe headed toward Des Moines Iowa where we had lunch down town at the Old Spaghetti Works it was great then we drove to the State Capital it is a beautiful building and grounds. After words we talked about how close we are to the bridges of Madison county which we had read the book with the same name. So I suggested we are this close we might as well go and look them over so she put it into the Garmin and a way we went.

We drove to Winterset Iowa where the bridges or close by. We went to the information bureau where we picked up some info about the bridges, there is only one that you can drive over so we went out to it and drove over the bridge. We drove around town and we found something that I never knew aboP1070415 John Wayne (The Duke) Birth Place Homeut the duke you know John Wayne. He was born as Marion Morrison on May 26 1907 in Winterset Iowa. We drove by the house and the whole yard was full of American flags there was no place to park for the city was working on the roads so Charlotte just took a picture as we were driving by.  we decided after this that we would head for our daughters house in Kansas where we stayed a few days before heading back home.

One of my favorite verses

John 3:16 is one of my favorite Verses. God loved the world this way: He gave his only Son so that everyone who believes in Him will not die but will have eternal life. (GWT) Gods Word Translation

What I do know is that I excepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior and because of that this old earthly body may die and it may hurt with arthritis and worn out bones but one day when He decides to take me or He comes again my spirit will be with Him forever. I am so looking forward to that day, but this does not mean I should set around and wait but that I need to be about His will and that is to reach others for Him.

I had never heard of a Klokkenspel until Charlotte wanted to see this one. It is a tower looking structure with windows on both sides; the windows have curtains so you can’t see inside. At a preset time bells will start ringing out P1070274 The bells that ringmusic in a certain theme and one of the curtains will open and behind it different characters will move around, and this will happen eight different times with eight different themes. This is set up to happen four different times a day, when it starts you watch it on one side and after the fourth one does its thing then you move to the other side to watch the other four. The link will take you to the Pella web site and there is a YouTube of the Klokkenspel you can watch.

In fact when the tulip festival is going on a lot of the locals wear wood shoes and they say that you can hear the clumping all over town. We were also told that the shoes come in two sizes adult and kid, they say you have to stuff the shoe with something to help it fit and so that is why they don’t wear them very often.
